PRINCEVILLE, Kaua'i – Both University of Hawai'i men's golf teams recorded better Round 2 scores than Monday's first round during Day 2 of the sixth annual Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational at The Makai Club.
UH's "Black" team holds steady in 18
th place with a second round 294 for a 593 total while the "Green" team is in 20
th at 610 with a second round 302.
No. 40 Louisville continues to hold the lead in the team standings at 535 followed by No. 36 Missouri (540), No. 20 UCLA (547), No. 50 San Diego State (548), and Sam Houston State (550). Rounding out the Top 10 are No. 5 Wake Forest (552), East Tennessee State (560), No. 43 Ole Miss (561), No. 47 Colorado (561), and Washington (563).
It was a record day individually as Georgia Southern's Steven Fisk set a course record with a 12-under 60. Missouri's Hayden Buckley shot 11-under 61 and hold the lead in the individual standings at 17-under 127, two strokes ahead of Louisville's Simon Zach who shot 63 on Monday.
UH freshman
Cole Yoshida rebounded from a first-round 80 with even par 72 that included an eagle two on his closing hole, the par-4 14
th. Yoshida is tied for 95
th at 8-over 152. Also competing for the Black team is sophomore
Taiga Iwasa, who fired his second straight 73 and is tied for 70
th at 2-over 146. Junior
Cameron Kaneko carded a 74 and is tied for 77
th at 147. Senior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon is tied for 95
th at 152 after a 79 while sophomore
Trevor Hirata is in 109
th place at 157.
The Green team played with just four golfers as sophomore
Desmond Mello withdrew due to illness. Sophomore
Nick Nelson leads the team at 4-over 148 with his second straight 74 and is tied for 84
th. Freshman
Justin Arcano shot 73 and is tied for 93
rd at 151. Fellow frosh
Justin Ngan carded another 78 and is tied for 108
th at 158 along with Kaua'i native
Bryden Salvador who posted 77.
The tournament concludes with the third and final round Tuesday with an 8:00 a.m. HT shotgun start.
