PRINCEVILLE, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team entered two teams for the sixth annual Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational which concluded the first round Sunday at The Makai Club.
UH's "Black" team is in 18
th place at 299 with a trio of golfers – senior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon, junior
Cameron Kaneko, and sophomore
Taiga Iwasa – at 1-over 73 and tied for 54
th place.
The "Green" team is in 20
th place at 308 and are led by sophomore
Nick Nelson at 2-over 74 and tied for 70
th.
No. 40 Louisville leads the team standings at 22-under 266, four strokes clear of No. 36 Missouri (270). No. 50 San Diego State is in third (274) followed by No. 20 UCLA (279). Rounding out the Top 10 are Sam Houston State and Washington (280), No. 5 Wake Forest (281), No. 43 Ole Miss (282), UMKC (284). Cal State Fullerton, East Tennessee State, and Utah Valley (288).
Individually four golfers carded 7-under 65 for the Round 1 lead – Missouri's Jamie Stewart, SDSU's Blake Abercrombie, Louisville's Nicolas Platret, and UCLA's Devon Bling. A group of give golfers are one stroke back at 6-under.
Also competing for the "Black" team are freshman
Cole Yoshida (80, t-109
th) and sophomore
Trevor Hirata (82, 111
th). Three golfers on the "Green" team shot 78 and are tied for 99
th – freshman
Justin Ngan, sophomore
Desmond Mello, and freshman
Justin Arcano. Kaua'i native
Bryden Salvador posted 79 and is tied for 105
th.
The second round continues Monday with an 8:00 a.m. HT shotgun start.
