PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team fell short of capturing the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate title, finishing two strokes behind champion Santa Clara following Sunday's final round at The Classic Club.
The Rainbow Wahine (900) and Broncos (898) each carded a final round 300 and easily lapped the 12-team field. UC Riverside finished third (922), 22 strokes behind UH, followed by Cal State Fullerton (925), and host Wyoming (927).
Individually, UH junior
Kaci Masuda finished runner-up at 5-over 221, two strokes behind medalist Kristin Le of Santa Clara (219). UH freshman
Emma Lower was fourth at 224. Masuda fired even par 72 with two birdies and a double bogey as her only blemish in her round while Lower shot 77 and dropped two spots after entering the day in second place.
Sophomore
Megan Ratcliffe and freshmen
Sahara Washington tied for 13
th place at 231. Ratcliffe shot 1-over 73 on Sunday with only one bogey while Washington posted her second straight 78. Freshman
Tyra Tonkham tied for 39
th at 241.
UH will next compete in the Nanea Pac 12 Preview, Oct. 23-24 in Kohala, Hawai'i.
