HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-1) held off Kansas State, 4-3 to capture their first dual match win of 2017 on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex.
Hawai'i captured the doubles point with No. 3
Marina Hruba and
Alzbeta Houbova defeating Iva Bago and Livia Cirnu, 6-2. UH's No. 1 duo of
Roxanne Resma and
Petra Melounova then earned the doubles point by knocking off K-State's Millie Stretton and Ana Garcia Navas, 6-3.
In singles action, Hruba raced out to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Garcia Navas on the No. 3 court to give UH a 2-0 lead. Kansas State however quickly evened the match at 2-2 with victories on the No. 5 and 6 courts. But No. 2
Cindy Nguyen then closed out her win over Stretton, 6-4, 6-1, to give UH a 3-2 lead and No. 1 Melounova sealed the win for UH with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Kansas State's Carolina Costamagna.
The Rainbow Wahine will return to the courts on Wednesday, January 18 to face Mississippi at 3:00 p.m.
