DAVIS, Calif.-The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (
11-9, 5-3 BWC) defeated UC Davis in their season finale on the road at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis, Calif. on Sunday afternoon, 5-2. The Rainbow Wahine will now enter this week's Big West tournament ranked No. 4 and will take on No. 5 UC Irvine on Thursday, April 28 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
The 'Bows earned the doubles point to start the match, winning the matches on the No. 1 and 3 courts. UH's No. 3 duo of
Marina Hruba and
Sarah Gealer nearly blanked UCD's Kamila Kecki and Frederique Sleiffer, 6-1, while
Paulina Petriskova and Klara Pribylova edged out the Aggies' Tiffany Pham and Alex Huie with a tie-breaker win, 7-6 (7-3).
Hawai'i then went on the win the next four straight singles matches to take the match over UC Davis. UH's No. 5
Roxanne Resma blanked Samantha Martino at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0 to start things off. Hruba then knocked off Kristy Jorgensen on the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-1. Petriskova kept things rolling with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Martino at No. 6 in her final regular season match of her Rainbow Wahine career. On the NO. 1 court, Hawai'i's
Cindy Nguyen defeated Lani-Rae Green in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
The Rainbow Wahine will now stay in California and head to Indian Wells, Calif. for the Big West Conference Tournament.
