HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team (11-6) wrapped up the home court season and celebrated the careers of three senior 'SandBows' on Tuesday evening at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, knocking out the 4-1 Senior Night victory over Mountain West foe Boise State (4-4).

The SandBows had a much to celebrate as seniors Katie Spieler and Ginger Long took to the Court at Ching Complex for one final time versus the visiting Broncos, securing the 4-1 victory as they cruised to straight-set victories in their respective pairs.

Joining Spieler and Long in their senior salutes was Heather Boyan, the Chicago native and former standout at Western Kentucky who joined Hawai'i last spring as an indoor convert and graduate student. Her rise on the squad since arriving was remarkable all the way to No.1 position last Thanksgiving in the inaugural Pac Rim Championships. Her promising spring season was sadly cut short due to a hiking accident. She has continued to inspire the current UH players with presence through her recovery is set to complete her Master's Degree in Kinesiology this spring.

First to play on the afternoon was Long who paired with Mikayla Tucker at the No. 5 spot for their eighth consecutive straight-sets victory, earning the dominant 21-9, 21-10 win over Laney Hayes and Jaymee-Lee Bulda. Long's career dates to the inception of the program in 2012, when she played three consecutive years while doing double duty an indoor player. Returning from a year off the sand court, the Maui-born Long has played a pivotal role on this year's team, finishing again in decisive fashion for her 71st all-time match win, ranking third in the program's all-time history.

The top of that all-time win list belongs to Spieler, the Santa Barbara-born sensation who has proven as effective as she is inspirational. She and and partner Emily Maglio held the top position in the SandBows lineup and delivered a convincing defeat to finish off the Broncos, topping Maddy O'Donnell and Hannah Hubbard, 21-11, 21-14. With the win, Spieler notched her 95th career win at UH to solidify her spot as the career wins leader, coming down the stretch only five victories shy of the century mark. The pair also improved their record to 14-1 on the season behind stellar team defense and a smooth side-out game.

Also notching victories were the new pair of freshman Ari Homayun with local junior standout from Kaiser High School, Hannah Rooks. The duo moved steadily to a straight-sets win at the No. 4, defeating Katie Hall and Sabryn Roberts, 21-11, 21-11, in a strong statement win for only their second start together.

The SandBows' other point came at the No. 3 spot from Hannah Zalopany, who joined with Ka'iwi Shucht for the first time this season. The pair persevered for a tightly-contested three-set victory over Kaitlyn Oliver and Maddi Osburn, 22-20, 18-21, 15-10.

The only other three-setter was the last of the night and went the way of Boise State, as Broncos No. 2 pair Sarah Baugh and Sierra Nobley prevailed in a see-saw battle over Nikki Taylor and Lara Schrieber, 19-21, 21-7, 12-15.

The Rainbow Wahine will wrap their regular season in grand fashion at the Outrigger Aloha Invitational, on the neutral courts at Queen's Beach, Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. The fifth-ranked 'Bows will take on a top-flight field that includes top-ranked USC and Big West rival Long Beach State. Washington, Grand Canyon and Louisiana Monroe are also slated for competition. Dual match play with double elimination will start at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and wrap with nationally-televised (CBS) final that begins at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
