Hannah Zalopany
HONOLULU – On a picture-perfect Sunday in Manoa, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team wrapped up an extremely busy week by holding off reigning indoor National Champion Nebraska in a competitive dual competition at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, holding on for the 4-1 victory.

Sunday's action started at the No. 5 spot, where Hannah Zalopany and Ari Homayun cruised to another straight-set victory to get the day started with wins of 21-10 and 21-12, marking their third dual set victory of the week.

Next up were the No. 3 and No. 4 pairs, where Nebraska was able to muster their lone point of the dual, earning a No. 4 straight at 4 with a straight-set win. The SandBows' Hannah Rooks and Ka'iwi Shucht bounced back quickly to win a three-set thriller (21-15, 17-21, 15-12) and give Hawai'i the 2-1 advantage.

On to the No. 2 pairs, Katie Spieler and Emily Maglio delivered the dual match victory in straight sets against a talented Nebraska pair behind well placed shots, strong spikes and a dominant team defense, winning 21-15, 21-17.

The nightcap featured local standout Nikki Taylor and German-born Lara Schreiber at the No. 1 position. The pair rallied back from a first-set defeat to win in three behind the Schreiber's stellar defense and powerful serves and net presence provided by Taylor, 9-21, 21-18, 15-13.

The 4-1 team victory sends the SandBows off on a winning note at home, heading out for a week-long road trip to the southeast that will feature an opportunity to upend previously unbeaten No.2 Florida State in the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla. Also among the field will be Tulane, Stetson, Florida Atlantic and Florida International.
