Beach Volleyball Opens Five-Match Week On Tuesday Vs. No.2 USC

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team is slated for a busy schedule with high-level competition on their home sands this week, with dual matches against No. 2 Southern Cal and Nebraska, in addition to two days of competition at the Hawai'i Invitational on Queen's Beach.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-3) will open up the week on Tuesday, March 15 against second-ranked USC (5-2), looking to reclaim a win from the Trojans in a rematch from the opening weekend in Malibu. Opening up the season in the Pepperdine Kickoff Tournament, UH fell to the defending National Champion Trojans 4-1 in the season opener, with the up-and-coming tandem of Katie Spieler and Emily Maglio registering the lone UH win in straight sets. UH and USC will meet at 4:00 p.m. at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex sand courts and the top pairs matches will be televised live on OC Sports (TWC channels 16 [SD] and 1016 [HD] and Hawaiian Telcom channels 89 [SD] and 1089 [HD]) with Scott Robbs and Lisa Strand-Ma'a on the call, and Ryan Kalei Tsuji providing sideline coverage. The OC Sports broadcast will cover the second matches with the program airing live at 7:00 p.m. UH enters the week with a 1-5 record against the Trojans.

The 'SandBows' will then move on to the Hawai'i Invitational, Friday and Saturday, March 18-19 at Queen's Beach, playing host to USC, Loyola Marymount (1-5) and Nebraska (1-0). UH is 4-1 against LMU and 3-0 against NU. Competition will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the beach.

UH will return on Sunday, March 20 to the Ching courts for a dual match against Nebraska, the defending indoor volleyball NCAA Champion. The 'Huskers will come to O'ahu with only one match in the books, but will take on five matches in three days before meeting UH on campus on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. The top two pairs matches will be televised live on OC Sports (TWC channels 16 [SD] and 1016 [HD] and Hawaiian Telcom channels 89 [SD] and 1089 [HD]) with Scott Robbs and Lisa Strand-Ma'a on the call, and Ryan Kalei Tsuji providing sideline coverage.

After a busy week at home, the SandBows will head to central Florida for five matches in three days at the Stetson Spring Break Tournament in DeLand, Fla.
