Final ResultsSIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished in third place following the second day of the Matador Invitational, Tuesday, at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
With inclement weather forcing the suspension of Round 2 on Monday, the teams started the day by completing the round. Sophomore
Lauren Kirkwood aced the par-3, No. 7 hole, her first hole of the day, while freshman
Kaci Masuda holed out on her second shot at the par-4, No. 8 hole, which is surrounded by water.
The Rainbow Wahine went on to post a second round score of 318 and trailed leader Santa Clara by seven strokes heading into the third and final round. In the final round, UH shot an identical 318 for a 960 total, 15 strokes behind eventual winner Santa Clara (945) and six shots behind runner-up Morehead State (954).
Masuda was UH's top finisher at 237 (79-76-82), tied for seventh place, her best finish as a Rainbow Wahine and first career Top 10. Junior
Izzy Leung tied for 15
th place at 241 (81-83-77) after a final round 77, the team's best score of the third round.
Juniors
Daezsa Tomas (81-81-83=245) and
Raquel Ek (87-78-80=245) tied for 23
rd and Kirkwood tied for 43
rd at 253 (83-91-79).
USC's Amy Lee won a play-off with Morehead State's Anna Magnusson to capture medalist honors. Lee and Magnusson both finished the tournament at 232 while USC's Victoria Morgan and Morehead State's Linnea Scholin was one stroke back at 233.
The finish marked the third time in five tournaments this season, UH placed in the top three. The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Bruin Wave Invitational, Feb. 29-March 1 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
