Game Notes

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will face its biggest test on its biggest stage of the season, squaring off with UC Irvine Thursday, Feb. 11 (8:00 p.m.) at the Stan Sheriff Center in a matchup of the Big West Conference's top two teams. The game will be the first of two this week as the 'Bows host Cal State Fullerton Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

UH (18-3, 7-1 BWC) and UC Irvine (18-6, 7-1 BWC) enter the contest with identical conference records and the matchup will be the first since the Anteaters edged Hawai'i in last season's Big West Tournament final. A second straight sellout is expected for the much anticipated meeting which will be the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader. The Rainbow Wahine tipoff with Long Beach State at 5:30 p.m.

The 'Bows made history this past weekend with their fourth road win to open a league season, a first in program history. They beat UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly on the road without guard Isaac Fleming who has been sidelined after a leg injury suffered Jan. 30 against Long Beach State. The team's overall and league starts remain the best since UH's 2001-02 NCAA Tournament team.

The game also pits the Big West's top offense in Hawai'i and against the best defense in UC Irvine. UH is averaging a league best 79.2 ppg and shooting at a .468 clip, also tops in the Big West. Conversely, the Anteaters have held teams to a league-low 63.9 ppg and .378 shooting percentage.
