SANTA BARBARA, Calf. – Stefan Jankovic put up 16 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, Aaron Valdes added five rebounds and a game-high 18 points and the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team bounced back with a 76-64 win over UC Santa Barbara at the Thunderdome on Thursday night.
 
The 'Bows (17-3, 6-1 BWC) remained tied with UC Irvine atop the Big West Conference standings and swept the season series with the Gauchos for the first time since 2013. The Rainbow Warriors also improved their conference road record to a perfect 3-0, a first since 2004.
 
Quincy Smith added an all-around solid effort with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals and Mike Thomas contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
 
Michael Bryson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Gauchos (9-12, 3-5 BWC) and Gabe Vincent added 15 points.
 
UCSB was hot early, hitting on its first four shots from the field including a Vincent three pointer to open the game. The 'Bows hung around though as Smith and Roderick Bobbitt (9 pts, 5 reb, 6 ast) connected from beyond the arc to keep UH close. Jankovic gave his team its first lead at 14-13 off a jumper with 14:13 to play in the half.
 
The 'Bows would later run off nine straight points capped by a Valdes three pointer to go up 25-19. The Gauchos made a run of their own to regain the lead but the 'Bows would take it back and head into halftime with a 36-33 lead. Vincent tied the game with a three-pointer early in the second half, but Valdes recalimed the lead for good, hitting three free throws after getting fouled on a three-point attempt.
 
The 'Bows went on an 8-2 run with 10 minutes to play to take a 56-49 lead, but the Gauchos didn't let the game get away from them as Maxwell Kupchack shaved the lead to two points on a bucket with 7:46 to play. UH quickly responded as Jankovic hit a pair of free throws then scored on a layup to put Hawai'i up by 10 points and the 'Bows pulled away for the win.
 
UH will take its undefeated league road record to Cal Poly on Saturday. The 'Bows and Mustangs will tip off at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) in a game broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
