HONOLULU – It was a fruitful and happy evening for the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team who sent its seniors off in style with a scrappy 89-78 Big West Conference win over CSUN on Saturday night.
Â
In front of a sold out and near capacity crowd at the Stan Sheriff Center, seniors
Dyrbe Enos,
Sai Tummala,
Quincy Smith and
Roderick Bobbitt helped the 'Bows (23-4, 12-2 BWC) move one step closer to their first conference title since 2002. UH will go on the road for its final two games needing just one win to clinch at least a share of the league title.
Â
Stefan Jankovic led all scorers with 28 points on 8-10 shooting and 10-12 from the free throw line. Tummala saved one of his best performances at the Stan Sheriff Center for his last, scoring 16 points just one off his career high. Despite a poor shooting effort,
Roderick Bobbitt flirted with a triple-double, putting up 13 points and registering seven rebounds and eight assists.
Â
Aaron Parks had a team-high 18 points for CSUN who fell to 10-19 overall and 5-10 in the Big West.
Â
The 'Bows took a three-point halftime lead and slowly extended it to double digits. Back-to-back buckets from Smith (10 pts, 3 ast) put UH up 58-47, then a layup and three pointer helped push the lead to 12 points with 13:04 to play.
Â
Jerron Wilbut's jumper with just under six minutes to play shaved the lead to just nine points, but
Sheriff Drammeh's and-one layup gave his team a 14-point lead and helped seal the senior night win.
