SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The 61st-ranked University of Hawai'i women's tennis team won its fifth-straight match with a hard-fought, 4-2 win over San Diego on Thursday at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 6-3 overall while the Toreros fell to 3-4.
 
The Rainbow Wahine captured the doubles point to begin the match with a 1-0 lead. UH's No. 2 duo of Cindy Nguyen and Roxanne Resma dominated Marta Stojanvic and Shani Blecher of USD, 6-1. But, the Toreros' Columba DiFilippo and Maria-Paula Torres evened things by holding off UH's No. 3 team of Marina Hruba and Paulina Petriskova, 7-5. Hawai'i's Sarah Gealer and Klara Pribylova edged out USD's Dana Oppinger and Drew Spinosa in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4) to win the point.
 
In singles, both teams battled all match with five of the six singles matches going to three sets. UH rookie, No. 99 Hruba won her 7th-straight dual match, improving to 10-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sophia Chow on the No. 2 court. Pribylova won her first set but eventually fell in three sets to Torres, 5-7, 6-2. 6-3 at No. 4. San Diego then tied the match at 2-2 when Stojanovic defeated Nguyen at No. 1, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Resma put UH back in the lead at 3-2 after coming back to down Blecher in three sets. Resma lost the first set 0-6, but battled all the way back to win the last two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Gealer clinched the UH win with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Spinosa to give UH their fifth-straight win.
 
Hawai'i returns home and will take on Big West opponent UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 26 and then a non-conference match against Oregon on Feb. 28.
