Game NotesHONOLULU – After suffering its first conference loss of the season, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will look to regroup on the road, playing a pair of Big West Conference games first at UC Santa Barbara Thursday, Feb. 4 then at Cal Poly Saturday, Feb. 6. Tipoff times for both games are set for at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).
The 'Bows (16-3, 5-1 BWC) had a chance to gain sole possession of first place in the Big West this past weekend, but were unable to produce a victory over Long Beach State on Saturday in front of sold out Stan Sheriff Center crowd. Previously league undefeated UC Irvine dropped a home defeat to the very UCSB team the 'Bows will play this week.
The sellout was the first since 2004 and the highest turnstile count (9,079) since UH's win over Tulsa in 2003. Despite their lowest scoring and shooting performance of the season, the 'Bows still lead the Big West averaging 79.6 ppg game and shooting at a .466 clip.
Mike Thomas delivered an excellent performance in the loss, UH's first in nine games. He put up a career-high 20 points on 7-11 shooting and pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
Quincy Smith made his presence known on both sides of the ball, stuffing the stat sheet with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
