HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team opened the first day of the Weinman Foundation Invitational against Air Force Academy, BYU-Hawai'i, and HPU on Friday at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
Hawai`i had four teams in doubles action today, but only partners Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma came away with a pair of victories. Melounova and Resma almost blanked AF's TJ Fumagali and Jocelle Rudico, 6-1. The duo then defeated AF's Chloe and Lily Forlini in a thrilling tie-breaker, 7-6 (4). UH's Saga Shermis and Sophia Storch fell to the Forlinis, 6-2. Later, they fell to HPU's Ocean Adam and Barbora Kijasova, 7-5. Klara Pribylova and Alzbeta Houbova also suffered two losses, 6-2 and 6-4 respectively against HPU's duo of Nicole Hoynaski and Barbora Kijasova, and BYU-H's Dallas Zhang and Summer Wen respectively. Marina Hruba paired up with Michelle Pits against Zhang and Wen but also suffered defeat. They played a tough second-match against Fumagali and Jocelle but fell just short, 7-6 (5) in at very tight tiebreaker.
 
In singles play, the 'Bows Nikola Dolakova and Hruba won their matches. Dolakova edged out Meredith Laskey in a close match with a straight set win 6-4, 6-3. Hruba cruised to a straight-set 6-0, 6-1 victory over AFA's Elizabeth Barnickel, 6-0, 6-1.  Resma fell to BYU-H's Summer Wen, 6-3, 6-2 while UH's Houbova fell to Adam, 6-2, 6-4. The other five matches went on unfinished due to inclement weather.
 
The Weinman Foundation Invitational continues on Saturday. All matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex beginning at .
