GREENWOOD, Ind.—University of Hawai'i women's volleyball player
Clare-Marie Anderson earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ honors on Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Anderson, a junior defensive specialist, has earned multiple Big West and UH academic honors over her first two seasons. She working towards a Bachelor's of Science in biology in UH's honors program with the future goal of going to medical school. Anderson has played 52 sets in 19 matches this season with 29 digs and two aces. She is now eligible to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America
® honors, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honors will be selected later this month.
Anderson is just the fifth Rainbow Wahine to be recognized by CoSIDA for the prestigious award. Lily Kahumoku (2003), Kanoe Kamana'o (2004, '05), Tara Hittle (2008), and Kanani Danielson (2009, '10, '11) are the only other women's volleyball players to receive the honor. She is the only player representing the Big West Conference.
In order to be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. There are eight districts with Hawai'i included in District 8 with Alaska, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada.
