WAHIAWA, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team holds the Round 1 lead at its own Rainbow Wahine Invitational after Tuesday's first round at the Leilehua Golf Course.
Three Rainbow Wahine shot even par or better led by senior
Izzy Leung, who shot 2-under 70 and sits in third place in the individual standings. Sophomore
Kaci Masuda fired a 1-under 71 (t-4
th) and senior
Raquel Ek (t-7
th) shot even par as the three are currently in the Top 10.
UH (287) holds a one-stroke lead over Sacramento State and two shot lead over No. 27 BYU in the eight-team field. Rounding out the team standings are UT Rio Grand Valley (294), North Dakota State (296), Grand Canyon (298), Portland State (302), and UH-Hilo (322).
Leung, a senior from Shatin, Hong Kong, shot a blistering 33 back nine and was 4-under over his final 12 holes. After posting a double bogey on her second hole, Masuda did not record a blemish the rest of the way while recording three birdies during a six-hole stretch.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are senior
Daezsa Tomas (74),
Kelli-Anne Katsuda (77) and sophomore
Lauren Kirkwood (79), the latter of whom is entered as an individual.
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Wednesday with a 9:00 a.m., shotgun start.
