SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southwest Regional Championships on Monday as they played San Diego State in a round of singles matches at the Aztec Tennis.
The Rainbow Wahine played just six matches against the Aztecs.
Cindy Nguyen was dominant against Taylor Lederman winning 6-1, 6-1.
Roxanne Resma,
Marina Hruba and
Michelle Pits also won in straight sets. Resma dispatched SDSU's Marina Colvee, 6-2, 6-0 while Pits defeated Berta Acero 6-0, 6-3. Hruba won her first set easily but the second set was very close and ended in a tie-breaker. Hruba knocked off Kennedy Davis, 6-2, 7-6 (5).
The last two matches of the day both ended in tie-breakers.
Petra Melounova split her first two sets with SDSU's Jana Buth, then battled back to capture the tie-breaker third, 7-5, 5-7, 10-5. UH's
Alzbeta Houbova won her first set against Olivia Larsson but dropped the second set, Houbova however, fell in the tie-breaker third set, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
The Rainbow Wahine will now return to Hawai'i and will next host their annual Weinman Foundation tournament from Nov. 4-6.
