MALIBU, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team competed on Day 2 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southwest Regional Championships. The tournament is being hosted by Pepperdine at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
The Rainbow Warriors had three teams alive in the doubles Round of 32 to start the day. The UH duo of
Felix Albert and
Ruben Blattner were the lone Hawai'i pair to advance into the Round of 16. Albert and Blattner edged out Cal Poly's Antoine Noel and Joshua Ortlip by a break, 8-6. Hawai'i's other two doubles teams fell in the Round of 32 with UH's
Marcel Chan and
Igor Kolaric falling to ninth-seeded Marko Goles Babic and Milen Ianakiev of San Diego State, 8-2.
Chris Cajigan and
Eric Kenneth dropped their match to Micolas Moreno de Alboran and Kristian Prior of UC Santa Barbara.
In the Doubles Round of 16, Albert and Blattner fought hard and kept things close, but eventually were defeated by fourth-seeded Joshua Page and Filip Vittek of San Diego, 8-5.
Three Rainbow Warriors also competed in the singles consolation bracket. Grand Canyon's Justin Cvitanovic defeated UH's
Spencer Travalino in the Round of 64, 6-3, 6-2. Hawai'i's Blattner fell to UCLA's Reid Shumway, 6-2. 6-3 and Cajigan lost to Milen Ianakiev of San Diego State, 6-2, 6-2 both in the Consolation Round of 32.
