PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team is currently in second place, three strokes off the lead, after the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, Saturday at The Classic Club
The Rainbow Wahine shot rounds of 296 and 297 for a 593 total, three strokes behind leader Santa Clara (590), heading into Sunday's final round. Senior
Izzy Leung sits in third place at even par 144 following rounds of 71 and 73. The Shatin, Hong Kong native is six strokes behind Santa Clara's Annie Freman, who posted rounds of 70 and 68 for a 6-under 138 total.
UH seniors
Daezsa Tomas and
Raquel Ek are each tied for sixth at 4-over 148. Tomas posted rounds of 77 and 71 while Ek shot 73 and 75, respectively. Sophomore
Kaci Masuda is tied for 31
st at 156 while junior
Kelli-Anne Katsuda is tied for 42
nd at 160.
Hawai'i last captured a team title at last season's Hobble Creek Classic. UH is just ahead of Big West foes Cal Poly (594) and UC Riverside (595) in the team standings. Southern Utah is fifth (610), followed by Wyoming (613), Northern Arizona (614), Montana State (625), CSUN (628), UCR's "B" team (634), Cal State Bakersfield (635), and Montana (638).
