HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-1, 0-0 Big West) won its first match of the season by edging out Nevada, 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
The Rainbow Wahine won the doubles point with UH's No. 3 duo of Marina Hruba and Paulina Petriskova defeating Nevada's Sara Korzeniecki and Monika Mazuisiak, 6-2. The 'Bows captured the doubles point with a Sarah Gealer/Klara Pribylova win over Claudia Herrero and Adriana Gergelyova, 6-4.
 
But in singles, the Wolf Pack battled back. Hawai'i's Hruba cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Blaga Delic. Hruba remained undefeated in five singles matches thus far this season. With UH leading 2-0, Nevada battled back to even the score at 2-2, winning the next two matches on Courts 2 and 4. UH's Petriskova dropped her first set against Sara Korzeniecki, but fought her way back to a victory in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Roxanne Resma clinched the match winning in straight sets over Nevada's Monika Maqusiak, 7-6 (8), 6-2.
 
The Rainbow Wahine have Friday off but will be back at it on Saturday at 10:00 am against No. 56 Washington at the UH Tennis Complex.
