HONOLULU—The 17th-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (5-0. 0-0 Big West) swept American, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 on the second night of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. The Rainbow Wahine offense was led by Nikki Taylor who had a team-high 15 kills and Kalei Greeley who added 10 kills. Tai Manu-Olevao came from off the bench to spark UH recording a career-high .727 hitting percentage on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in front of a crowd of 6,525.

For the match, Manu-Olevao put down eight kills in 11 attempts with no errors. She has not had a hitting error in two straight matches. Manu-Olevao also had three blocks and a dig after coming in relief.

Taylor has started the season with a vengeance, leading UH in kills in every match thus far. Against American, she hit a season-high .542 hitting percentage with just two errors in 24 attempts. She also had two service aces, five digs and two blocks to fill her stat line. She is averaging 5.24 kills per set.

Greeley also had a career-high hitting percentage of .471 and for the second straight match came away with double-digit kills. She added five digs and a block for the 'Bows.

In the first set, UH started on a roll, taking an early 10-4 lead, but after a timeout, the Eagles reeled off eight straight points to tie then overtake UH 11-10. But the 'Bows steadied itself and righted the ship to eventually capture the first set, 25-22. Taylor led UH with seven kills and two blocks in the first set.

Hawai'i jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the second set, aided by two Tayler Higgins aces and a kill apiece by Olivia Magill, Taylor and Greeley. The Rainbow Wahine maintained their lead throughout the set and cruised to take the second set, 25-18. Magill had five of her nine kills in the second set alone.

The 'Bows got off to another quick start in the third set to lead by as many as six points at 11-5, but the Eagles would chip their way back into the set, cutting their deficit to just one point at 17-16. After a Hawai'i timeout, UH pulled away to win the final set, 25-20. Tai Manu-Olevao came in to spark the 'Bows with four kills in four attempts. Three other Rainbow Wahine all had four kills as well in the set—Magill, Greeley and Taylor.

American, who is the two-time defending Patriot League champion—fell to 3-3 on the season. The Eagles were led by Allison Cappellino who had 10 kills while both Erin Swartz and Mary Smith had four kills each.

Hawai'i will battle No. 25 UCLA (3-1, 0-0 Pac-12) on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 thus far in the tournament. Hawai'i has a slim edge in the all-time series against the Bruins, 37-35. Last season the Rainbow Wahine fell short against UCLA in straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25. UCLA and UH have faced each other at least once every year for all of UH's 42 seasons.
