Live ScoringSAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team sits in eighth place following the first round of the 2015 Big West Conference Championship, Sunday, at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
The Rainbow Warriors shot a first round 316, 30 strokes behind leader UC Riverside (286). UC Davis is close behind (288) followed by Cal Poly and UC Irvine (289), CSUN and Long Beach State (298), Cal State Fullerton (300), and UC Santa Barbara (302).
UH's top individual is freshman
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon, who fired a first round 77 and is currently tied for 31
st. The Thailand native finished his round with six straight pars after an opening nine 40.
One stroke back is junior
Scotty Yamashita (78), who started 5-over after his first five holes before settling down to shoot 3-over the rest of the way. Sophomore
Skye Inakoshi got off to a solid start, making the turn at 1-over after birdies on Nos. 4 and 9. However the Honolulu native shot 9-over on the back to post an opening round 80.
Senior
Ryan Kuroiwa is tied for 42
nd at 81 while sophomore
Pono Tokioka is 45
th after struggling to a 94.
UC Riverside's David Gazzolo is the first round leader at 3-under 67, one stroke better than UC Davis' Mike Brockington. The two are the only players under par.
The championship continues with the second round on Monday with a 9:00 a.m. PT start.
