HONOLULU – The No. 2 University of Hawai'i women's sand volleyball team will play its final regular season matches this weekend, taking part in the inaugural Aloha Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 25 at the Queen's Beach Sandbox in Waikiki.
Pairs competition begins on Friday among No. 6 Long Beach State, No. 8 UCLA and St. Mary's, then Hawai'i will join the field for Saturday's head-to-head dual matches. UH opens the single-elimination competition at 10:00 a.m. against UCLA.
The tournament will be the final competition for the 'Bows before heading to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the AVCA National Championships. On Monday, Hawai'i was awarded the No. 2 seed in the eight-team team championships and will also feature teams in the pairs tournament.
UH (15-1) has had a stellar season thus far, beginning with an opening-day upset of defending national champion Pepperdine and last week winning three dual matches in its home finale against Grand Canyon, San Jose State, and HPU.
Leading the 'Bows this season has been the No. 2 pair of
Olivia Urban and All-American
Katie Spieler. The tandem is a team-best 28-7 this season.
CBS Sports Network will televise portions of the competition in a special broadcast that will premiere on Saturday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m. ET (7:00 a.m. HT)
