Round 2 ResultsARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team dropped a pair of matches on the first day of the Cal Poly Match Play Championships, Monday, at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
In their opening round match, the Rainbow Warriors tied UC Santa Barbara, 2.5-2.5, however, the Gauchos won the tie-breaker by winning the most holes. In that match,
Justin Chu and
Brian Lee each won their matches 1-up at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
Scotty Yamashita lost his match at No. 1, 2 and 1 while freshman
Adrian Lee lost to Will Strauss, 1-up.
Ryan Kuroiwa halved his match with Hunter Robinson at No. 2.
In the afternoon round, UH lost to Cal Poly's "B" team, 3.5-1.5. Yamashita was the Rainbow Warriors' lone winner, defeating Johnny Castles, 3 and 2 at No. 1. Lee halved his match with Adam Yout at No. 4. Kuroiwa, Chu, and Lee each lost their matches.
Hawai'i will face Utah State in the seventh place match. Cal Poly's "A" team with face UC Irvine for the championship while CSU Bakersfield and UCSB will settle for third place. Cal Poly's "B" team and Weber State will play for the consolation championship.
