Photo GalleryKAPALUA, Maui – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team dropped a 5-1 dual match decision to No. 48 Texas, Saturday, in a tune-up for Monday's Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Kapalua's Bay Course.
The Rainbow Wahine's lone victory came at No. 6, where sophomore
Kelli-Anne Katsuda defeated Lara Weinstein, 3 and 2.
Despite the outcome, UH played extremely well as the five other matches could have gone either way. At the turn, the Rainbow Wahine was in every match with the exception of freshman
Marie Donnici, who was 3-down to Julia Beck at No. 3 position. The Vancouver, British Columbia native halved the next seven holes before Beck pulled out the match on the No. 16 hole.
Raquel Ek made the turn 1-up before Anne Hakula rallied on the back nine to win 2 and 2. At No. 1,
Izzy Leung dropped a hard-fought match to Bertine Strauss 4 and 2. Junior
Nichole Cruz lost 3 and 2 to Tezira Abe at No. 4 while sophomore
Brianna Becker fell 4 and 3 to Natalie Karcher at No. 5.
The Anuenue Spring Break Classic begins Monday, March 23 and runs through Wednesday, March 24 at The Bay Course. The tournament features 16 teams including seven teams ranked in Golf Week's Top 50.
