H-TV: Match HighlightsHONOLULU –
Tai Manu-Olevao recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs and the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team mounted a furious fourth-set rally to beat Texas in four sets in exhibition action on Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 15-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23.
Kalei Greeley posted 12 kills and nine digs with
Savanah Kahakai adding a match-high 25 digs.
Tayler Higgins had 12 digs and three blocks to round out the stellar individual efforts for the 'Bows.
Amy Neal and Paulina Cerame both had 12 kills to lead Texas who dominated at the net to the tune of a 34-18 blocking advantage. Three Longhorns shared match-high honors with eight blocks.
The 'Bows were handed a pretty solid defeat in set one, but a different Hawai'i team took the court for the second set. UH scored the first four points of the set, then took a 10-4 lead after an
Emily Maglio block and kill. Magill's kill extended the lead to seven points before block assists from Cerame and Chiaka Ogbogu shaved the lead to 15-12. The 'Bows would put the set away though. Back-to-back kills by Manu-Olevao pushed the lead to 23-16 and UH cruised to the equalizing win.
Hawai'i took it to the Longhorns again in set three. Two straight kills by Magill gave the 'Bows an 11-8 lead, beginning a run that would force Texas to call two timeouts just minutes apart as UH opened up a 17-9 lead. Hawai'i never let Texas into the set as a Greeley kill and a
Katiana Ponce ace sealed the win.
Texas looked prime to send the match to a decisive fifth set when it opened up an early set four lead. The Longhorns would lead 22-16 before the 'Bows took the game over with an 8-0 run to end the set and win the match. Maglio (7 kills, 7 blocks) had a pair of blocks in the run and Greeley drilled back-to-back kills to give UH the win.
