HONOLULU—The No. 64 University of Hawai'i women's tennis (4-6, 1-2 Big West) team wraps up its home schedule this week. The Rainbow Wahine will host SMU on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 3:00 p.m. and then their Senior Day match against Big West Conference rival, Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. It will mark the final home matches for two Rainbow Wahine—
Rebecca Faltusz and Martina Kostalova. Both matches will be held at the UH Tennis Complex.
Last week, Hawai'i fell to No. 11 Michigan, 6-1, but the lone win came on the No. 1 court with UH's
Cindy Nguyen defeating No. 21 Yonit Yurovsky in a three-set, thriller, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (6). For Nguyen, it was her sixth straight win, and the biggest win over a ranked opponent in her young career. The win vaulted Nguyen to be ranked No. 68 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
SMU Mustangs (7-3, 2-0 AAC)
SMU comes to Honolulu on a three-match losing streak after starting the season with a 7-0 record. All three of their losses were to ranked Big-12 opponents with their losses coming at the hands of Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and most recently, No. 27 TCU this past Saturday. The Mustangs were ranked in the ITA team rankings at No. 47 as recently as Feb. 24.
Cal State Fullerton (7-7, 0-4 Big West)
The Titans roll into this week's matches on a two-match win streak knocking off LMU and SIU-Edwardsville last week. Fullerton is led by No. 1 singles player, Alexis Valenzuela who has an 11-7 overall record. In dual matches, she is 7-2.
