Round 1 ResultsWAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is currently in 15
th place after the first round of The Amer Ari Invitational Thursday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course. The Rainbow Warriors shot a 6-over 294 with sophomore
Pono Tokioka leading the way at 3-under 69.
The tournament, which features 13 nationally ranked teams among the 18-team field, is considered one of the nation's top tournaments. No. 14 USC (276) holds a one stroke lead over No. 25 Arizona State and No. 19 Washington while No. 16 Stanford is one stroke back (278).
Individually, UW's Cheng-Tsung Pan and ASU's Jon Rahm are tied atop the leaderboard at 7-under 65.
Tokioka, a sophomore from Lihu'e, Kaua'i, posted six birdies and one eagle on his round and is tied for 12
th with 11 other golfers. Senior
Brian Lee is tied for 62
nd at 1-over 73 while junior
Scotty Yamashita and senior
Ryan Kuroiwa each stand at 4-over 76.
Junior
Justin Chu rounds out the UH contingent at 10-over 82.
The Ari Invitational continues on Friday with the third and final round scheduled for Saturday.
