Live ScoringLIHUE, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished in ninth place after the third and final round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Friday at the Wailua Golf Course.
No. 23 California captured its fifth consecutive Burns title with an 852 total after a final round 279. Runner-up No. 31 New Mexico finished seven strokes back at 859 while No. 24 UNLV was third at 868.
The Rainbow Warriors shot a final round 290 to finish at 889 (293-306-290). UH's "B" team finished 16
th at 929 (313-311-305).
Junior
Justin Chu shot a final round 3-under 69 to lead UH's "A" team. The Honolulu native posted five birdies on his round and finished the tournament tied for 17
th at 4-over 220 (71-80-69). Also tied for 17
th was junior
Scotty Yamashita who shot even par 72 on Friday.
Senior
Brian Lee also posted 72 and tied for 43
rd at 225 (74-79-72). Sophomore
Skye Inakoshi was one stroke better at 224 after a final round 77 to tie for 37
th. Lihu'e native
Pono Tokioka shot 79 to finish the tourney at 243 and 90
th place.
Freshman
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon led the "B" squad at 230 with a final round 79. Senior
Ryan Kuroiwa also shot 79 and tied for 66
th. Freshman
Adrian Lee shot a final round 2-under 70 and tied for 76
th at 234 along with junior college transfer Chad McLay who completed his first tournament at UH with a final round 77.
The Rainbow Warriors will take the next month off before competing in the Cal Poly Match Play, March 23-24, in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
