HONOLULU—The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team won its 12th-straight match and remained the lone unbeaten team in the Big West with a sweep over UC Davis on Friday night, 25-14, 25-12, 25-17. Tai Manu-Olevao tallied a game-high 12 kills while Olivia Magill and Nikki Taylor each had six blocks apiece to lead the No. 1 blocking team in the NCAA. Hawai'i improved to 17-1 overall and 7-0 in conference, while UC Davis fell to 9-12 overall and 4-3 in the Big West. There were 6,649 tickets issued for the match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

For Manu-Olevao, it was her third consecutive double-digit kill performance and sixth of the season. She hit .375 with just three errors in 24 swings. She added two assists and five digs as well.

Magill had one solo block and five block assists while notching six kills plus one dig. Taylor had six block assists with eight kills and no errors for a .421 hitting percentage. She also added two assists, two service aces and nine digs in the match.

Freshman outside hitter McKenna Granato got her third start of the season and recorded a career-high six kills with just one error in 15 attacks for a career-high .333 hitting percentage. She also had two service aces, four digs and one block to fill out her stat line.

The Rainbow Wahine won the first set, 25-14 with Taylor leading the way with four kills and Magill rejecting  five blocks early. UH had a near-perfect sideout percentage at 93%, converting on 14-of-15 opportunties. Hawai'i jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and never looked back. There was a scary moment when the arena fell completely silent as Taylor collided with one of her  teammates going after a ball and lay on the floor as she was attended to by the athletic trainer with the 'Bows leading 23-12. Taylor would return to play in the second set. She is the only Rainbow Wahine to play in all 63 sets this season for UH.

In the second set, Clare-Marie Anderson's seven-straight serves gave the 'Bows a commanding 19-6 lead that the Aggies could not recover from. Manu-Olevao led UH with four kills in the set while the Hawai'i front line combined for four blocks.

The third set was a much tighter affair, with eight ties and two lead changes. UC Davis took their first lead of the match at 7-6 and again at 8-7. But UH was able to inch-worm away from the Aggies. Granato's four-consecutive serves late gave the 'Bows a 20-16 lead and some breathing room. UH won the last three-straight points to win the match at 25-17.

Hawai'i outblocked the Aggies, 12.5-to-4.0. It marked the seventh-straight match and the 14th time this season that UH has had at least 10 blocks. UH also out-hit UC Davis, .398-to-.079. It is the second straight match and the fourth in the last five matches that UH has held their opponent below a .100 hitting percentage. The Rainbow Wahine tied their second-highest team hitting percentage of the season hitting at .398 (they also hit .398 against American on Sept. 5).

UC Davis was led by Kendall Walbrecht's 11 kills. UH held their leading hitter, Kaylin Squyres to just four kills and a -.125 hitting percentage with seven errors in 24 attempts. Squyres was leading the league with 4.58 kills per set.

Granato got the start in place of Kalei Greeley who sat out recovering from injury. For Greeley, it snapped her streak of starting 42-straight matches dating back to last season.

The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand on Saturday night when they will take on UC Irvine at 7:00 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center.
