HONOLULU – Aaron Valdes had a team-high 20 points but it couldn't overcome a poor shooting night for the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team who fell in overtime to Cal Poly 61-57, Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The game was the Big West Conference opener for both teams.

The 'Bows (12-5, 0-1 BWC) equaled their lowest point total in a half this season when they went into the locker room trailing 30-23. Negus Webster-Chan, who nailed a three-pointer with under two minutes in regulation to give UH a two-point lead, finished with eight points and six rebounds.

UH made a late 9-0 second-half run to take its first lead of the game. Valdes hit a three-pointer then on the next possession then went in for a dunk to lift his team to a 43-42 lead with 7:19 remaining.
