Aaron Valdes scored a career-high 34 points and the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team tied a school record with 20 steals in an 83-68 Big West Conference win over CSUN, Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Valdes scored his 34 points on a blistering 13-18 from the floor which included 3-5 from beyond the three-point arc.
Stefan Jankovic had also had the hot hand, hitting on 6-8 for a career-high 15 points.

The 20 team steals was a first since 1988 against Tennessee Tech.
Roderick Bobbitt, who owns the program's single-game steals record (10) had eight of his own, a feat only eclipsed by Tony Webster's nine steals against Air Force in 1983. Bobbitt also shared game-high honors with 10 assists.

CSUN (4-13, 0-2 BWC) had three players in double figures led by Stephen Maxwell's 20 points.

The 'Bows (13-5, 1-1 BWC) caught fire at the end of the first half, going on an 8-2 run to lead 39-37 at the break. In the second half,
Isaac Fleming's (10 pts, 4 ast) jumper capped a 10-2 run to put the 'Bows up by nine, then later a 9-0 burst sealed the win.

UH next heads to UC Riverside for its first Big West road game. The 'Bows and Highlanders will play next Saturday, Jan. 17 in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.
