Rainbow Warriors Face Another Pac-12 Foe; Oregon State On Saturday

HONOLULU – One week after nearly upsetting nationally ranked Washington, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior football team will host another Pac-12 opponent, Oregon State Saturday, Sept. 6 at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium. Kick-off is 4:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance and leave for the stadium early.
 
The Rainbow Warriors (0-1) opened the 2014 season with a narrow 17-16 loss to the Huskies in a game UH dominated nearly every phase. Hawai'i out-gained UW, 424-to-336, while running back Joey Iosefa ran for 143 yards and one touchdown. The Warrior defense shut-out Washington in the second half, forcing eight consecutive punts, and held the Huskies to only 119 yards of total offense after halftime.
 
OSU opened its season with a 29-14 victory over Portland State last week in Corvallis, Ore. The Beavers trailed 14-13 at the break but outscored the Vikings 16-0 in the second half. OSU's offense generated 504 total yards while quarterback Sean Mannion passed for 328 yards and one touchdown and running back Storm Woods carried the ball 16 times for 125 yards.
 
This year marks the second consecutive season the teams will play in Week 2 of the regular season. Last season, the Beavers shut-out the Warriors in the second half of a 33-14 victory in Corvallis .

Radio: ESPN 1420 AM will carry the game live with Bobby Curran (play-by-play), John Veneri (analyst), and Felipe Ojastro (sideline). Chris Hart and Gary Dickman host the "Countdown To Kickoff" beginning at 2:30 p.m., and also the halftime show. Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KHLO in Hilo, KKON in Kona, KTOH on Kaua'i, and KNWJ in Pago Pago, American Samoa. In addition, the game is available on satellite radio on XM 203 and Sirius 93.

Promotions: The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is the game sponsor and will award hundreds of dollars in gift cards during the contest (register at Gate 3).  A UH student will compete in the "Honolulu Star-Advertiser Quarterback Challenge" for the chance to win a Vacations Hawaii Trip to Las Vegas during the first timeout of the fourth quarter (register at Gate 7).  One lucky fan will compete for $1,000 during the Allstate Field Goal Kick promotion during pre-game (register at Gate 3). The Farmers Hawaii Supa Bowzooka will be launching T-shirts into the stands between the first and second quarters. One fan will compete in the "Outrigger Resorts Kick for Key" promotion during the first timeout of the third quarter, with the chance to win a one-night stay at an Outrigger property (register at Gate 2). Fans are encouraged to visit the Xtreme Fun Zone before the game in the parking lot across from the stadium ticket office. Also, register at Gate 4 or 6 to win the "Best Seats In the House," compliments of Papa John's Pizza Hawaii and NAPA.

The Warriors and Beavers have met nine times with OSU holding a 6-3 advantage…OSU has won the last three games in the series - 2006, '08, and '13…The Beavers hold a slight 4-3 advantage in games played in Honolulu…OSU has scored at least 33 points in each of its six victories and has allowed a total of 86 points (avg. 14.3 ppg) during those wins…The series began on New Year's Day 1924 in Honolulu.
 
Game Storylines:
UH is opening the season against two Pac-12 opponents in consecutive weeks for the third time in four seasons…UH has played at least one Pac-12 opponent each year since 2005 with a 5-9 record during that span. This season, the Rainbow Warriors will play three Pac-12 teams during the regular season, the most in a single season in school history…UH is 29-56 all-time vs. current members of the Pac-12 conference, including a 3-6 mark against Oregon State. Hawai'i has lost its last five games against Pac-12 opponents…OSU has won the last three meetings in the series (2006 in Honolulu and 2008 and '13 in Corvallis)…OSU has scored at least 33 points in each of its six wins in the series and has allowed an average of 14.3 ppg during those wins…UH running back Joey Iosefa, who rushed for 143 yards in last week's season-opener vs. Washington, has averaged 145.8 yards in his last five games dating back to last season…In last year's meeting, OSU quarterback Sean Mannion threw for 372 yards and 4 TDs and helped the Beavers out-score UH, 19-0 in the 2nd half.
