Olivia Magill belted a match-high 13 kills,
Kalei Greeley posted a career-high 11 digs and the No. 22 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team swept Utah State, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22 on Friday night in the Outrigger Resorts Volleyball Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tai Manu-Olevao ripped 11 kills for the 'Bows (5-2) to go along with a career-high six service aces, and Magill and
Kalei Adolpho led the match each with five blocks.
Kaylie Kamalu had 11 kills to lead Utah State (3-4).
The Aggies posed little challenge for the 'Bows in the opening set. UH held a 10-8 lead before Manu-Olevao won five straight points off her serve including two straight aces to start the run. Block assists from Greeley and Adolpho extended the lead to 19-12 and a pair of Manu-Olevao kills down the stretch sealed the win.
Set two saw the 'Bows begin to pull away midway through to take the two-set lead heading to the break. A pair of Manu-Olevao kills spearheaded a 6-2 run to give UH a 16-9 lead. The Aggies weren't done just yet as a pair of block assists by Hannah Smith (5 blocks) and Elle Brainard (3 blocks) cut the lead to 16-13. Down the stretch though it were the 'Bows who pulled away on a kill each from Manu-Olevao and Magill.
The sweep would not come easy for Hawai'i who trailed by three midway through the third set. A Greeley kill cut the lead to one then later back-to-back blocks by Adolpho put UH ahead 21-19. Kamalu's kill shaved the lead back to one but Magill ended any thought of a rally, ripping two kills and posting a block down the stretch to finish off the Aggies.
The 'Bows continue the tournament on Friday when they play No. 25 UCLA who swept San Francisco in the early match. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m. following the opening match of the evening between Utah State and USF.
