Tai Manu-Olevao had nine kills and 12 digs and
Olivia Magill posted a match-high four blocks but the 17
th-ranked University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team were edged in each set of a sweep to No. 25 Arizona State on Saturday night in the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.

Manu-Olevao recorded her nine kills at a .304 clip and added three blocks but couldn't stop her team from dropping its first match.

Macey Gardner led all attackers, ripping 16 kills and posting 10 digs to lift ASU (2-0) to the sweep. Halle Harker added a team-high 11 digs.

The 'Bows (1-1) trailed early in the opening set but fought back and remained in striking distance. Later, kills by Magill and Manu-Olevao cut the lead to just one point at 18-17. UH would never come all the way back though as a Gardner kill off a
Kalei Adolpho (4 kills, 2 blocks) attack gave ASU a 25-21 win.

Set two saw the 'Bows lead early when a Magill kill broke a 3-3 tie and Adolpho pushed the 'Bows ahead 9-6 with a kill of her own. Block assists by Adolpho and
Tayler Higgins (6 digs, 2 blocks) extended to an 18-14 lead, but not one they would hold on to. ASU rallied and went on an 8-2 run to close the set and take the commanding two-set lead.

In the third set, the Rainbow Wahine again led early but a short three-point burst by the Sun Devils turned the tables. UH led 16-15 off one of
Kalei Greeley's six kills but Gardner capped the short run with a kill to give ASU an 18-16 advantage. The set saw four ties down the stretch but it were the Sun Devils who prevailed to clinch with win.

The early match of the evening saw Ohio top San Diego State in four sets, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.

The 'Bows close the tournament Sunday evening when they face San Diego State (0-2). Start time is set for 5:30 p.m. with ASU and Ohio playing the first match at 3:00 p.m.
