Day 1 ResultsSANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team sits in 14th place following the first two rounds of the 68th Western Intercollegiate Saturday at the famed Pasatiempo Golf Club.
The Rainbow Warriors fired rounds of 363 and 375 in the play six, score five format for a 738 total.
Stanford leads the 14-team field with a 4-under 696 total. Washington is six strokes back at 702 followed by defending champion California at 704. Stanford's Patrick Rodgers and Cameron Wilson and Washington's Trevor Simsby share the individual lead at 6-under 134.
Leading the way for the Rainbow Warriors is senior
Nainoa Calip, who shot rounds of 75 and 70 and is 5-over 145 and tied for 44
th. Also at 145 is junior
Brian Lee, who had the best round of the day for Hawai'i with a first round 69, coupled with a second round 76.
Senior
David Saka shot 70 and 78 and is tied for 60
th at 148 while sophomore
Scotty Yamashita is one stroke back at 149 (72 and 77) and tied for 66
th. Also competing for UH are junior
Ryan Kuroiwa (77-74=151) and freshman
Zachary Braunthal (80-81=161).
The tournament concludes on Sunday.
