STANFORD, Calif. – For the second time this year, University of Hawaii sand volleyball's top tandem of Karissa Cook and Brittany Tiegs captured a pairs tournament. The duo defeated fellow Rainbow Wahine Katie Spieler and Nikki Taylor in the finals of the Stanford Tournament Sunday at ACSR Sand Volleyball Courts to cap a stellar Northern California road trip for the SandBows.

UH went 5-0 in dual matches during the week, while Sunday's tournament bracket saw four UH tandems fill in the semifinals. UH went a perfect 10-0 against competitors from Santa Clara, UCLA and host Stanford in bracket play on Sunday.

Cook and Tiegs defeated Spieler and Nikki Taylor, 21-13, 7-4 in a championship match abbreviated by a medical forfeit. The final was a rematch of the season-opening Rainbow Wahine Invitational championship, also won by Tiegs and Cook. The pair have now run their record to 25-2 on the year. 

Also advancing to the semifinals for UH were the duos of Karlee Riggs-Mikayla Tucker and Ginger Long-Ali Longo.  UH's No. 5 team of Olivia Urban and London Chow advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of wins over teams from UCLA and Stanford, before falling to Long and Longo. 

The Rainbow Wahine next return home to face Chaminade and Hawai`i Pacific in the Jack In the Box Sand Volleyball Showcase on Saturday, April 5. First serve will be at 9:00 a.m. at the Queen's Beach Sandbox.
