VIDEO: Sights & Sounds of Rainbow Wahine Sand Volleyball

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's sand volleyball team's No. 1 team of Brittany Tiegs and Karissa Cook finished as runners-up in the Gold Bracket of the Jack in the Box Spring Challenge Saturday afternoon at the Queen's Beach Sandbox.
 
The second-seeded Tiegs and Cook fell to the top-seeded Kirby Burnham and Sara Hughes of USC, 21-18, 21-16, in the finals. Burham and Hughes dropped only one set in its six victories over the two-day individual tournament.
 
Tiegs and Cook were seeking their second title this season after capturing the Rainbow Wahine Invitational earlier this month. The tandem had not dropped a set in the tournament until the finals. The duo, who defeated USC's No. 2 team of Kelly Claes and Alexa Strange in the semis, spoiling an all-USC finals, sport a 16-2 record this season.
 
In the Silver Bracket, UH's No. 4 team of Karlee Riggs and Hannah Rooks won the all-Hawai'i finals over Mikayla Tucker and Sydney Shinn, 21-11, 22-20. Riggs and Rooks, who went 4-0 on the day and were hardly challenged on their way to the title, also defeated teammates Olivia Urban and Sarah Mendoza in the semifinals
 
Overall, UH teams went 16-6 on the day.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next face UCLA and San Francisco in a pair of dual matches in Larkspur, Calif., before competing in the Stanford Invitational, March 29-30.
