Men’s Basketball Gears Up For Big West Tournament

Game Notes

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The University of Hawaii men's basketball team heads to California for the 2014 Big West Tournament, Mar. 13-15, at the Honda Center. The No. 4 seed Rainbow Warriors will open the tournament versus No. 5 seed Cal State Northridge in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday, Mar. 13 at 8:30 p.m. PT/5:30 p.m. HT.

The 'Bows enter the tournament with 20 wins, their largest win total in a decade. UH finished fourth in the Big West standings with a 9-7 mark and are the league's top offensive team averaging 79.8 ppg. They now seek their first conference tournament title in 12 years and the subsequent NCAA Tournament bid that goes with it.

UH is led by the frontcourt of Christian Standhardinger (17.7 ppg, 9.3 rpg) and Isaac Fotu (16.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg), both of whom were named to the all- Big West first team. It marks the first time that two UH players earned first team honors in the same year.

UH and Cal State Northridge will meet for the third time this year and split the regular-season series with each team protecting home court. The Matadors squeezed out a 79-78 win in Northridge on Jan. 11 while UH won 77-63 in Honolulu on Feb. 1.

This will be the second-ever Big West Tournament appearance for the 'Bows. As a No. 5 seed last year, UH lost to No. 4 UC Irvine, 71-60, in the quarterfinals.
