Men’s Golf Completes Amer Ari Invitational In 16th Place

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team opened the 2014 spring season with a 16th place finish at the Amer Ari Invitational, Saturday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
 
The Rainbow Warriors shot a final round 294 to conclude the three-day tournament in a tie for 16th place at 864 (279-291-294). Third-ranked Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title at 819, 12-strokes ahead of runner-up Washington (831). Oregon , TCU, and No. 24 USC finished in a three-way tie for third at 835.
 
OSU's Jordan Niebrugge shot a final round 7-under 65 to overtake Stanford's Cameron Wilson, the round 2 leader, to take medalist honors with a 16-under 200 total. USC's Jeffrey Kang was one stroke back at 201 after a final round 68 while Wilson was third at 202 with a final round 70.
 
Freshman Skye Inakoshi finished as UH's top finisher for the third time this season with a 2-under 214 following his third round 72. The Honolulu native tied for 53rd overall and his up-and-down round included one eagle at the par 4 No. 13 hole, four birdies, four bogeys and one double.
 
Senior Nainoa Calip also shot a final round even par 72 to finish in a tie for 74th at 217 (70-75-72). Freshman Zachary Braunthal shot his first round over par for the tournament at 74 to tie for 64th at 216 (70-72-74).
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Warriors were brothers Scotty Yamashita (68-76-78=222/t94th) and Tommy Yamashita (74-73-76=223/t98th).
 
Hawai'i will next host the John Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 19-21 at the Wailua Golf Course on Kaua'i.
