Pono Tokioka shot a final round 3-under 68 to finish in a tie for fifth place at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational Sunday at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.
The sophomore from Lihu'e, Kaua'i finished the tournament at 5-under 208 for his best finish of his young UH career. Tokioka, who competed as an individual, shot 68 on Friday and 72 on Saturday and posted five birdies for 68 on Sunday.
As a team, the Rainbow Warriors placed 11
th in the 13-team field with an 888 total (286-302-300). Oregon ran away with the team title at 33-under 819 while North Florida was runner-up at 843.
Individually, Oregon's Aaron Wise birdied the first playoff hole to defeat North Florida's MJ Maguire. Both finished the tourney at 10-under 203. Second round leader Jonathan Woo of Oregon took fourth after a final round 71.
UH sophomore
Skye Inakoshi led the Rainbow Warriors, tying for 24
th place with a 217 total after shooting 75 on Sunday. Senior
Brian Lee shot 74 to finish at 220 and a tie for 36
th. Senior
Ryan Kuroiwa tied for 52
nd at 225 while junior
Scotty Yamashita tied for 56
th at 226.
Freshman
Adrian Lee placed 72
nd at 245.
Also competing as individuals for UH in the tournament were sophomore
Zachary Braunthal (71-72-81=224/t47th), junior
Justin Chu (77-83-76=236/68th), and freshman
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon (78-81-81=240/69th).
The tournament wrapped up the fall season for the Rainbow Warriors. UH opens the spring season, Feb. 5-7, at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai'i.
