ESTERO, Fla. – Aaron Valdes had 18 points and Mike Thomas posted 13 more, but it wasn't enough as the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team fell 88-73 to San Francisco, Monday at the Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena.

Roderick Bobbitt added 10 points with Thomas and Isaac Fleming each pulling down five rebounds. Garrett Nevels had eight points but shot 3-12 including 0-4 from beyond the arc.

Tim Derksen poured in a game-high 21 points for the Dons who improve to 3-0. Kruize Pinkins contributed 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The first half featured runs by both teams, the last a 13-2 burst by San Francisco to enter halftime with a 34-30 lead. The 'Bows (4-2) trailed by four points with just over eight minutes remaining in the half before reeling off 11 straight points to take a 28-21 lead. Bobbitt had a pair of layups to help his team take the lead. The tides turned quickly though when the Dons, capped by Pinkins' layup at the buzzer, finished the half on a 13-2 run.

The second half saw the 'Bows done in when they went over eight minutes without a field goal. Thomas converted on a three-point play to tie the game at 37-37, but a 10-2 USF run regained control for the Dons. Valdes was able to cut the lead three after converting on four straight free throws, but that would be as close as the 'Bows would get as USF won going away.

Hawai'i now falls into the losers bracket and will play Marist on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. HT).
