Box Score (html)SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team remained in the hunt for a postseason berth, holding off UC Santa Barbara in five grueling sets Friday night at the Thunderdome. Set scores were 25-23,25-23,27-29,19-25,15-12.
Kalei Greeley led UH (18-6, 10-3 BWC) with 19 kills and 13 digs.
Nikki Taylor added 16 kills and a career-high 21 digs.
After holding off UCSB (12-14, 7-8 BWC) in the first two sets, the Gauchos rallied in the third set to stay alive in the match. Set four belonged to UCSB, as the Rainbow Wahine trailed for most of the set, unable to take back the lead after an attack error set them behind 6-5.
Despite a turbulent third and fourth set, and after six lead changes in the final set, the 'Bows dug deep with a fifth-set win.
Kalei Adolpho's (8 kills) final kill brought UH to a 14-12 lead just before UCSB was called for a bad set, finishing off an intense set five.
The Rainbow Wahine play their regular season road finale on Saturday when they take on Cal Poly in a Big West match at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) at the Mott Athletic Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
