VIDEO: Match HighlightsHONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team delivered a dominant performance for the second straight night, winning the program's 200
th Big West Conference match with a 25-17, 25-19, 26-24 sweep of UC Irvine on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tai Manu-Olevao was the mark of efficiency for the 'Bows (12-3, 4-0 BWC), hitting at a career best .429 clip in a match where she had 20 or more attacks. She posted a match-high 15 kills on 28 attacks while adding seven digs.
Nikki Taylor logged her first double-double (11 kills, 10 digs) of the season and
Olivia Magill added a match-high seven blocks.
Allison Lee led the Anteaters (10-7, 0-3 BWC) with 13 kills and Molly Yoder had a match-high 13 digs.
The 'Bows, currently on a 21-set win streak, handled the Anteaters in the first two sets but were put to the test in set three. A fourth set seemed inevitable after Marisa Bubica (12 kills) ripped three straight kills to give UCI a 19-13 lead. UH rallied, scoring five straight points and staving off three set points to end the set and clinch the match.
Kalei Adolpho (4 digs, 4 blocks) helped the 'Bows to an early 7-3 lead in set one after recording a kill and getting in on a pair of blocks. Later, three straight kills from Manu-Olevao lifted the 'Bows to an 18-12 lead and eventually the win.
Set two saw the 'Bows break away late for a two-set lead. Lee's kill capped an 8-2 run to tie the score at 18-18, but Hawai'i regrouped and won seven of the set's final eight points to earn the win.
The Rainbow Wahine now hit the road once again for a pair of Big West matches against CSUN and Long Beach State next Friday and Saturday.
