Match NotesHONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team begins the second round of Big West Conference play this week, traveling to UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton for a pair of league matches. The 'Bows will play UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 31 and face the Titans on Saturday, Nov. 1. Both matches are set for 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
The 'Bows took over sole possession of second place in the conference with wins this past weekend against Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara and
Kalei Greeley and
Sarah Mendoza were named the Big West's Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Mendoza earned her honor on the heels of a career-high 25 digs against UCSB, tying the most by a Rainbow Wahine player since 2007.
Nikki Taylor and
Savanah Kahakai also had career evenings against the Gauchos. Taylor ripped a career-high 22 kills while Kahakai had a career-best 15 digs.
As a team, the 'Bows lead the Big West on both sides of the net. UH ranks first in aces per set and 13
th nationally (1.68) and its league-best blocks per set (3.02) also ranks at ninth in the country.
Olivia Magill leads the league in both blocks per set (1.47) and hitting percentage (.400) with
Tai Manu-Olevao ranking fourth nationally and first in the conference in aces per set (0.57).
