UH Swimming and Diving Falls To Purdue

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i swimming and diving teams competed in their first dual meet of the new year, falling to Purdue in both the men's and women's team results on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. Scores were 119-98 for the men and 133-85 for the women.

The day opened with the men's and women's 1- and 3-meter diving events. Amund Gismervik won the men's 3-meter and finished second in the 1-meter. On the ladies side, Aimee Harrison took top honors in the 3-meter with Lauren Hall pulling in two silver finishes.

Eduardo Guimaraes, Alistair Maclean (200 back), and Victor Goicoechea (500 free) all had first-place finishes in their respective swimming events. Guimaraes won the 200 free (1:40.54) with teammate Kacy Johnson finishing second. Guimaraes and Johnson also finished No. 2 and No. 3 in the 200 fly. The Rainbow Warriors also took top honors in the 400 free relay (3:05.32).

The Rainbow Wahine saw their most success in the freestyle events. Four of the top five finishers in the 200 and 50 yard races went to UH swimmers. Jasmine Alkhaldi took silver in the 200 free (1:53.92) and Sofia Mustelin did same in the 50 free (24.89). Alkhaldi also finished second in the 100 free.

The Hawai'i divers return to the pool next week for the Hawai'i Diving Invitational (Jan. 8,9) with both teams hosting a dual meet with Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 11.
