HONOLULU – After an 11-1 start to the season, the No. 6 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team begins defense of its Big West Conference title this week, hosting Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Prior to the Big West openers, the 'Bows will take on former Rainbow Wahine Kanani Danielson and Japanese professional club Toyota Auto Body Queenseis. First serve is set for Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
UH brings in a nine-match winning streak after three victories at the Shocker Volleyball Classic in Wichita, Kan. The 'Bows took down South Dakota on Thursday, won a five-set thriller over then-No. 23 Creighton the next night, and swept tournament play with a win over host Wichita State on Saturday.
UH ran the conference table last season with a perfect 18-0 record, the first Big West team to do so since UC Santa Barbara in 2002. Emily Hartong, who was named MVP at the Shocker Classic, enters the weekend leading the Big West and ranked 10th nationally in kills per set (4.70). She was also named Big West Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season and sixth of her career. Kalei Adolpho continues her stellar play in the middle, hitting a league-best .426 which also ranks her No. 20 in the nation.
