Men's Golf Finishes 18th at Saint Mary's Invitational

Final Results

SEASIDE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished the Saint Mary's Invitational Tuesday with the third and final round of play at Black Horse and Bayonet Golf Course.
 
The Rainbow Warriors (306-304-307=917) battled their way to a 307 at the Bayonet Course which put them at 917 for the tournament, finishing in 18th place.
 
Top-ranked California (288-282-284=854) ran away with the team title, stretching its win margin to 30 strokes after shooting a third round 284 for an 854 total. Oregon (297-293-294=884) finished in second after shooting a 294 for a three-round total to 884. San Diego (304-287-295=886) and Saint John's (298-291-298=887) finished in third and fourth place, respectively.
 
Individually, San Diego's Grant Forrest (71-69-69=209) edged California's Michael Weaver (70-70-70=210) by one stroke with a final round 69 to finish at 209. Cal's Brandon Hagy (71-71-69=211) finished third at 211.
 
UH junior Ryan Kuroiwa, the top finisher for the Warriors, shot a solid front nine during his third round 74, to finish 222 overall and a tie for 22nd place. Kuroiwa's final round featured two birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey.
 
Behind Kuroiwa was freshman Skye Inakoshi, who looked promising with a first hole birdie, but followed up with three bogeys on the back nine. The Honolulu native finished with a final round 77 to give him a 229 total and a tie for 55th.
  
Junior Brian Lee tied for 70th shooting a third round 77 for a 232 total. Senior Nainoa Calip finished in a tie for 94th with three-round total of 238. The Hilo native started off strong on the back nine but struggled on the front, with three bogeys on his final three holes to finish with a 78.
 
Also competing for UH was senior Tommy Yamashita (81-85-79=245), who shot 79 on Tuesday to finish at 245 and 101st place.
 
The Warriors will next travel to Sonoma, Calif. to compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Oct. 15-16, hosted by California.
