HONOLULU – The No. 10 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will host its final preseason tournament this week when the 'Bows welcome Portland State, Northwestern, and Arizona to town for the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Volleyball Challenge from Sept. 12-14.
The Rainbow Wahine (5-1) dropped one spot to No. 10 in the latest AVCA national poll despite an impressive sweep of then-No. 10 UCLA in the Hawaiian Airlines Classic championship match this past Saturday. It was their second win over a Top 10 opponent with the other coming against then-No. 1 and current No. 2 Texas on opening night.
The 'Bows have been one of the most efficient hitting teams in the nation. They rank eighth nationally in hitting percentage (.317) with sophomore Jade Vorster the most impressive 'Bow in that category. She boasts a .580 percentage good for second in the nation.
Last weekend was a special one for the Rainbow Wahine and their head coach Dave Shoji. UH topped Santa Clara on day two of the Hawaiian Airlines Classic to give Shoji his 1,107th career win, setting a new record for the most wins in NCAA Division I women's volleyball history.
UH opens with Portand State on Thursday, Sept. 12 (7:30 p.m) , plays Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 13 (7:30 p.m.), and closes the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14 (7:00 p.m.) against Arizona.
